This is an awesome project and I'm helping out with it along with a buncha other ar-teests who have volunteered their time. Personally, I think that is being pretty professional with this idea of making a kickstarter and getting others organized to help with the project. imo, there's more experience gained there than you can pay for at a college, and it's pretty awesome.
